This velvet tote bag is grey with a clear violet undertone, no brown and no red in it. On a cloudy day it simply reads as a warm grey, in the sun the violet comes forward.<\/p>\n

This shade sits right between grey and violet. It is an awkward colour to sell online, because a photo never quite matches what you hold in your hand. In a wardrobe it is easy to live with, since it works with black, with denim and with cool greys.<\/p>\n
Upholstery velvet, dense and short-piled, from an offcut from a furniture factory. The surface is matte and pleasantly cool to the touch. Run a finger across it and you leave a mark that disappears once you smooth it back, the way velvet does.<\/p>\n
The handles are cut from the same fabric and stitched twice at the base. The drawstring is mustard and it is the only strong colour on the bag. Mustard against violet makes a contrast you can see from a distance. Lining, zip and cord are new. What comes from salvage is the outer fabric.<\/p>\n
Roughly 37 x 40 cm, so the front panel is larger than a sheet of A4. A laptop, a notebook, a make-up bag and a water bottle all go in at once.<\/p>\n
Inside there is one zipped pocket and one slip pocket. The bag carries up to 8 kg. The top gathers on the drawstring into a soft frill, so it looks different full than it does empty.<\/p>\n
For someone who already owns a black bag and a beige one and is looking for a colour that is not yet another neutral brown. This grey forgives tram dust and the marks a bag picks up from being set down on a bench, and the violet undertone keeps it from looking like a work bag.<\/p>\n
Honestly: smooth velvet shows creases more than heavily textured fabrics. After a few days of carrying, the fabric settles and they stop being visible, but straight out of the parcel the bag has fold marks on it.<\/p>\n
Lift dust with a dry, soft brush, following the pile. Treat stains locally with a damp cloth. Hand wash in lukewarm water, dry flat. No tumble dryer and no iron.<\/p>\n
Upholstery fabrics have the pile anchored firmly in the backing, so they do not pill the way clothing velvet does. Spots that rub against something, a jacket zip for instance, may smooth out over time.<\/p>\n
Grey with a violet undertone, sometimes called mauve in colour charts. In sunlight the violet is more obvious, in shade the bag simply looks warm grey, so it is worth looking at both photos.<\/p>\n
The handles are made for carrying in the hand or over the shoulder. There is no way to wear this one crossbody.<\/p>\n
