Grey shopper bag with honeycomb texture
This grey shopper bag is made from a fabric with a raised, regular weave whose texture resembles a honeycomb. The lighter grey sits on the ridges, the darker one in the hollows, so the surface makes a pattern on its own.
The whole bag, handles included, came from a single upholstery offcut. The drawstring is mustard.

This fabric has a raised, regular weave with a texture resembling a honeycomb. It gives the bag a pattern even though nobody printed anything on it.
What it is made of
Upholstery fabric from an offcut from a furniture factory, in two shades of grey at once. The lighter one sits on the raised parts, the darker one between them. Up close you see a grid of small squares, from two metres away the whole thing blends into a melange.
The handles are cut from the same fabric and carry the same grid, just running lengthways. The drawstring is mustard, tied in a bow at the side. Lining, zip and cord are new, and the only salvaged part is the outer fabric.
What fits inside
Roughly 37 x 40 cm, so the front panel is larger than a sheet of A4. A 15 inch laptop, documents and a water bottle go in together.
Inside there is a zipped pocket and a slip pocket for a phone and keys. It carries up to 8 kg. Pulling the drawstring closes the top and gathers it into a frill.
Who it is for
For someone who wants a grey bag, but not a flat or a boring one. The texture makes the whole difference here: from a distance it is a calm grey, up close you can see the material has a history.
Honestly: dust can settle in the hollows of the weave. Running a dry brush over it now and then is enough, but on a light grey it shows sooner than on dark fabrics.
How to care for it
Dust with a dry brush, along the weave. Treat stains locally with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Hand wash in lukewarm water, dry flat. No tumble dryer and no iron, because pressing flattens the grid and the texture disappears.

Will the texture flatten with use?
The relief is built into the weave itself, so it does not wear away with use. The only thing that can flatten it is an iron, which is why we do not recommend pressing.
Is this a warm grey or a cool one?
Cool, with no beige and no blue underneath it. It works with black, navy and denim, and next to warm beiges it reads distinctly cooler.
